Andrew Mead Counselling Services
LGBTQIA+
Members of the LGBTQIA+ communities are extremely over-represented in the area of Religious Trauma and have experienced enormous suffering and harm as the result of religious teachings on sexuality and gender. This includes the practice of conversion therapy which attempts to change a person’s sexual orientation.
AMCS offers a safe space for LGBTQIA+ people to explore any aspect of their lives and experience, while offering specialised support in LGBTQIA+ exploration of religion and spirituality.
Andrew completed a Research Unit in Queer Theology in his Bachelor of Theology degree and has accumulated a small library on the subject. He is competent to support LGBTQIA+ people to explore their relationship to spirituality and religion in a manner that is safe, sensitive, aware, and respectful.
AMCS honours the client’s spiritual journey and the destination(s) they arrive at as unique to each individual and where they are in their own life right now. The counsellor does not control, direct, or prejudice the client’s unfolding journey and exploration; but facilitates, enables, and empowers them.
